In 2021, SmootDC expanded its operations to Boston, Massachusetts and the Midwest, each strategically located to respond to its growing customer base.

Smoot Boston, LLC provides general contracting, construction management and design-build services to the Greater Boston area. Our project management team is dedicated to delivering cost effective and high-quality construction for urban redevelopment and higher education clients.

Featured Project

Complete Renovation to World Class Facility

Revitalization of the ​National Air And Space Museum​ Mall Building in Washington, DC

The America by Air gallery is one of eight new and renovated galleries in the west wing of the National Air and Space Museum. SmootDC and its joint venture partners completed renovations on half of the museum. The east wing of the museum will remain closed while it is renovated.

The museum has been undergoing a seven-year renovation that began in 2018 and includes redesigning all 23 exhibitions and presentation spaces, complete refacing of the exterior cladding, replacement of outdated mechanical systems and other repairs and improvements. The entire project is expected to be complete in 2025.

Redeveloping DC's Mazza Gallerie Mall

The transformation of DC’s Mazza Gallerie is well underway as crews demolish the above grade portion of the mall while retaining the retail pavilion and the existing four levels of below-grade parking. The mall will be reimagined as a 7-story, 325-unit apartment project with 25,000 square feet of retail along Wisconsin Avenue.

Revitalization of the Joy Evans Therapeutic Recreation Center

SmootDC’s construction team celebrated the setting of the final steel beam for the new Joy Evans Therapeutic Recreation Center. The 37,000 square foot facility is being built on more than 7.5 acres of land and will bring together several District agencies to provide comprehensive recreational and therapeutic programming.

Mark offers more than 30 years of experience in construction management, project financing and administration, and real estate development to public and private clients on a very diverse range of project types. He provides executive direction for SmootDC, including ensuring exceptional client relationships, the acquisition of new work, and daily operations. In his leadership role, he works closely with the company’s regional executives to develop pursuit strategies for new work and to coordinate the allocation of the company’s resources. Mark leads a team of 40 construction professionals. He also focuses on identifying and proactively addressing risks and opportunities across the organization. A highly-regarded visionary, Mark is a tenacious problem-solver, actively engaged in early negotiations and project planning — all the way through closeout. Most importantly, he is thoroughly devoted to cultivating the firm’s corporate culture and dedicating time to mentoring up-and-coming leaders.

Mark’s pride in the company’s reputation for honesty and integrity is absolute; a reputation supported by the belief that corporate responsibility extends well beyond the bottom line.

Since 2004, Mark has served as President and CEO of Smoot Construction Company of Washington, D.C. He is a member of the Federal City Council Trustees and past member of the Construction Industry Roundtable Board of Directors. Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee for the ACE Mentorship Program where he chairs the ACE Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
